Fort Kit

Believe it or not, this is a present for an 18th birthday.

What do you get for a girl who doesn't want anything (ever)? Simple; you make her something that embodies your number one rule - never grow up. Alison, she's the type of girl who always puts that extra bit of thought into everything she does - one Valentines day, she brought in what must have been over a dozen hand knitted heart pillows for all her single lady friends. 

We wanted to give some heart back to her on her eighteenth so after coming across this DIY fort kit tutorial from Saltwater Kids, I knew I'd hit the motherlode. 

Everything in the kit is from Ikea aside from the guide rope and suction cups (neither are pictured) which we picked up from the dollar store. I don't remember exactly how much the kit cost all up, but it didn't hurt my financial soul and made the birthday girl smile so it was worth every cent! We managed to get most of the fabrics from the 'as-is' section of Ikea - where lonely pillowcases and broken hearted curtains go to die, so that made the whole project prettier and more affordable. 

What we included 

- Multiple sheets/curtains make up the bulk of the set. We added fabric ties on each corner.

- Clamps

- Suction Cups

- Guide Rope

- Lantern

- Battery operated light (candles create an obvious fire hazard)

- Puppet pals (well, why not) 

This was all packed into a fabric bag we made out of a pillowcase (second last photo). 

Nobody is ever too old too old for a fort
